A dog, staring at Saint Francis, what does he see?

An abstraction of handlike gestures squidging a grotesque. All sic.

The foundation of this piece is built from a lengthy acoustic guitar track. That track starts out with a bit of a cliché riff that I am trying to wean from myself. It keeps popping back up here and there like a weed. I’m personally sick of it. A bit of a Himalayan Blackberry of sorts with deep roots that keeps popping back up each spring. Damn that weed.

Why keep it? Most of what I create reflects whatever is in the atmosphere surrounding us at the time it was created. I’m apparently heavily influenced by all the bullshit endlessly going on in the world. It’s everywhere. Those are also weeds. That bullshit is also cliché, and I can’t get rid of it either. It becomes symbolically engrained into everything we do at some point.

So we simply persevere right over the top of it.

I add a lot of random outboard FX to it over its duration until it eventually loses itself and becomes heavily ambient. The mood is great for that, though in all fairness there is a lot of other stuff alongside it to get this piece to its logical conclusion.

The piece also includes a fair bit of Digitone and some samples I created on the SP404MK2. These are spread across two tracks here and there. One is simply Digitone. The other is a mixture of both. I then effect these using much of the same FX I used in the Acoustic Guitar track. Different intensities to provide variability. Different results to keep my intestest.

Lastly, I include a several vocal samples across multiple tracks doing whatever it is they are doing. That’s a whole other thing.

Less FX are applied to these, but not exactly none either.

I seem strangely productive lately. I even scrubbed the floors and cleaned the carpet stairs the other day and I can’t stand that work. I should probably clean the winter salt and filth from the floor of the car as well, but one can only have so much fun.
