Can't Escape the Present
Sometimes I forget the impossible
This began as an exploratory auditory deep dive into pedal order. Which goes first? What happens when first becomes last? And the result is Canned Parasite nonsense at its best; A messed up unintentional bastard hurled from an ill advised unfulfilling liaison between a non linear meta celluloid and a classic noir filmed in black and white; a messy offspring. We wouldn’t have it any other way.
This piece has three sequences. Each sequence is based on the same 4 tracks that were generated out of a Digitone II. A kick, a snare, a crash, a bell of sorts that sounds like a boxing ring bell or train bell; a bunch of onboard presets dialed to my personal tastes. Nothing fancy.
Layered on top of these are the situational use of four one shots sampled directly onto an SP404MK2. Two are synthy dialed into taste. Two are single notes from an electric guitar that were captured directly into the 404 and accidentally captured with way too much gain. Some of these one shots were fired off using different chromatic notes.
Then, everything is performatively shoved downstream into the Lost & Founds and one of the Moods.
Just to see what would happen.
Relevant information and timestamps:
Sequence 1: Lost & Found—> Mood II: 0:00
Sequence 2: Mood II—> Lost and Found: 5:45
Sequence 3: Bad Mood—> Lost and Found: 9:59
The track runs a bit loud at times. It doesn't clip, but I get as close as I can at times. We peak relatively early at 5:32. It is brief, but was "as intended" according to my tastes.
Vocals were tracked separately (smashed into one track). Sometimes they are fairly dry absent a very small splash of reverb in the DAW. Situationally they were fed subtly and unsubtly through the Bad Mood and at times an Ottobit X. The words selected and curated for effect.
Each sequence begins with the same foundational kick pattern running through a Meris LVX. I enjoyed the sound it was providing. The modulation is a tad unique to each sequence, but is otherwise undisturbed throughout with the exception of intentionally disengaging it a couple of times at the start of sequence 3.
I also have the Clean as an "always on" end of chain compressor. Absent occasionally having to dial up or dial back the wet/dry to keep everything in check, it was otherwise unchanged during this effort.
